Tell us a little bit about your event industry experience:
My experience spans over 15 years in the dynamic world of events. My journey commenced in event operations, where I had the privilege of overseeing a wide range of exceptional occasions. From large-scale public events and hosting professional sports teams to accommodating international tour groups, organising corporate meetings, managing expos, planning luxurious incentives, and orchestrating unforgettable weddings, I have been fortunate to be a part of it all. As my career progressed, I delved into the realms of business development and account management, driving growth in the MICE Market. Working for renowned global hotel brands, I enthusiastically embraced opportunities to cultivate relationships and establish strategic partnerships. As I continued to advance, I proudly served as a member of the IHG Hotel’s National Sales team, entrusted with managing key clients in the MICE sector across Australasia. Throughout my journey, I have honed my skills, deepened my understanding of the industry, and developed an unwavering passion for creating unforgettable experiences.
What are you most looking forward to doing in your new role as Business Events and International Manager?
It is an incredibly thrilling time to lead the team, especially considering the significant growth that the region is currently experiencing. I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to showcase Geelong’s incredible products and experiences to business event organisers, both within Australia and internationally. Furthermore, I am excited about working diligently to secure even larger events for Geelong, as we approach the opening of the Geelong Convention & Exhibition Centre in 2026. Throughout each project, I will leverage my extensive experience, maintain a strong commitment to excellence, and demonstrate a genuine passion for the work that I do, ultimately aiming to deliver exceptional results for the region.
What drew you to the MICE industry?
My fascination with the events industry ignited during my post-high school days when working on a remote island in the Whitsundays. While serving tables in the restaurant, I had the privilege of witnessing an event coordinator transform a picturesque waterfront location, into a breathtaking setting for a tailor-made wedding. It was a profound moment that made me realise the significance of contributing to someone’s special occasion. Motivated by this experience, I eagerly offered my services as a food and beverage attendant for any event that would allow me to be a part of such moments. Since then, I have never looked back.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love spending quality time with my family and friends. As a busy mother of two boys, my weekends are packed with activities like cheering for Will’s under 9’s football team, playing tennis, and hurrying to play dates/birthday parties (I swear their social lives are busier than mine!) Whenever we manage to carve out some time amidst the sports and activities, our family retreats to my mother’s farm in the Otway’s. It’s there that I truly savour the opportunity to go horse riding or embark on a trail run through the forest.
For first time visitors to our region, what are some must-dos they need to include on their bucket list?
Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula have an abundance of offerings that are sure to leave a lasting impression. Having grown up in the area, I have personally witnessed the incredible transformation over the years, from the days of the Portarlington Hovercraft in the 80’s to the present-day seamless service of the Searoad and Port Phillip Ferries, connecting the region to Melbourne. Take in the breathtaking views from renowned wineries like Jack Rabbit and Scotchman’s Hill, or indulge in a farm-to-plate experience such as the Portarlington Mussel Tours. For a day filled with action-packed family fun, Adventure Park is a definite must-visit. Whether you’re captivated by the coastal beauty, savouring the delectable local cuisine, engaging in thrilling outdoor activities, or immersing yourself in the vibrant arts and culture scene, the Geelong and Bellarine region promises an unforgettable bucket list experience for every visitor.
